‘Small Stevia Leaves make us rich’

“Thanks for their great job to make us rich in stevia plantation. They are planning stevia cultivation and plantation for us. They give us capital support, technical support and labour stuff support” , said Hantang villager Zhang Caiyao, in GanXian city, Jiangxi Province,  gratefully, when taking with journalist about his stevia business.

Zhang Caiyao said, he start to plant stevia leaves since 2009. However, it contract as a very small business for a long time as the lack of technician, capital, and labour stuff. In 2011, the Local government Sansong Group, a Farmer-support bearue, settled down in Hantang, granted him the technical support and labour stuff supply. Now the plantation area increase to 20 Mu, around 1.3 hectare. ‘It will generate ninety thousand RMB (Usd15000.00 ) this year, much better than working in factory in big cities’ he said.

In Hantang, Zhang Caiyao is not along. Many villagers are planting stevia leaves this year, back from big cities, encouraged by Sansong Group, who make it much easier to plant stevia in village.

In the past, most villagers are not familiar with stevia leaves, and lack of technical support. Even there are Long term stevia sales contract between famous stevia manufacturer and villager stevia association, but the annual sales amount is much lower than contract plan. With the help of Sansong Group, stevia farmers get adequate support, by free technical training, free stevia plant manual book, stevia market information conference…. Now, in 2012, the total plantation area amounted 200mu, around 13 hectare. A much more ambitious stevia base plan is under planning.
